Obituary for Lake Upchurch

Lake  Upchurch
After a courageous battle with Alzheimer's, Lake Upchurch, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, February 29, 2008. Born October 8, 1923 in Burwell, he was the son of the late Charles Upchurch and the late Mae Ashmore Upchurch. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Frances Harris Upchurch; and his brothers, James Upchurch, Glenn Upchurch, and Ray Upchurch.

Lake had retired as an auto mechanic after 47 years of employment with the Chrysler Corporation and Marietta Dodge. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during World War II and was a member of Faith United Methodist Church. Lake enjoyed spending time with his family and doing volunteer work with the Bartow Christmas Coalition and Feed the Needy.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Latimer Upchurch of Cartersville; his daughters and son-in-law, Vicki and J.R. Bowman of Iva, SC and Patti Puckett of Cartersville; his sister, Mary Jackson of Rome; six grandchildren, Ricky Cleveland, Brian Cleveland, and Ronald (PeeWee) Cleveland, all of Anderson, SC, Karri Fuller of Iva, SC, Maria Knight of Marietta, and Felicia Puckett of Cartersville; 3 great-grandsons; 2 great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, March 2, 2008 at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Billy Pinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery in Burwell. Serving as pallbearers will be Ricky Cleveland, Brian Cleveland, Ronald (PeeWee) Cleveland, Chris Manley, and Bobby Upchurch. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers are requested to be at the funeral home by 3:15 p.m. on Sunday.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 9 p.m. Saturday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1925 Century Blvd. NE Suite 10
