Obituary for Wilma Louise Abernathy

Mrs. Wilma Louise Abernathy, 89, of Cartersville, widow of the late Lewis A. Abernathy, died Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Townsend Park Health & Rehab.

Born November 5, 1925 in Bartow County, she was a daughter of the late Henry K. Owens, Sr., and the late Emma Annele Wade. Mrs. Abernathy was a longtime member of Pine Grove Baptist Church and was instrumental in the beginnings of the Church’s Sunday school program. She was retired from Lockheed after 30 years of service. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Henry Kennon Owens and Harold Gray Owens; her sister, Audi Mae Guess; and a step-mother, Idelle Allen Owens.

Survivors include her son, Rodney Abernathy and his wife Jane of Cartersville; and grandson, Shane Abernathy and his wife Stacie; and great-granddaughter, Riley Abernathy, all of Cartersville.

Funeral services will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that those who wish may make donations to Pine Grove Baptist Church, Post Office Box 1476, Cartersville, GA 30120, in memory of Mrs. Abernathy.
