Obituary for Edward W. Stewart

Mr. Edward Stewart, 91, of Cartersville, died Sunday, October 16, 2016 at his residence. Born in Missouri on October 9, 1925, he was the son of the late Herman Stewart and Florence Livers.

Mr. Stewart was a veteran of WWII and served as a Medic on the front lines. After the war, he escorted the wounded soldier’s home and made sure they were comfortable and secure. He was a member of Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, a charter member of the Mountain Music Club in Rome, a member of the Knights of Columbus of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rome, was active in the Masons of Kingston and The American Legion in Beech Grove, Indiana. He was also the Eucharistic Minister and member of the Folk Music Group of St. Francis. Mr. Stewart was a very generous man with a great sense of humor. If someone needed a place to sleep or a meal, his door was always open. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents is his wife, Jewel Easterwood Stewart; his brothers-in-law, Larry Easterwood and John Fred Stewart.

Survivors include his daughter, Rita Stover of Cartersville; his son and daughter-in-law, Ronald William and Annette Stewart of Kingston; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Jon Paul Baia of Valdosta, October Baia of Atlanta, Maia Carlson of Maine, Jennifer Anne Baia of Cartersville, Christina Baia of Kingston, Emily Ballis, Georgia Higdon, William Higdon, Marley Higdon, Gregory Che’Chancelor of Cartersville, Jonathan Stewart of Plainview, Tara and Brady Stewart of Plainview and Autumn Stewart of Savannah; his sisters-in-law, Pat Smith of Rome and Scherion Lillihaugen of Camarillo, California; his brothers-in-law, Bruce Easterwood of Chattanooga, Bobby Easterwood of Miami and a large number of nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, October 21, 2016 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Juan officiating. Interment will follow in Floyd Memory Gardens in Rome with military honors. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service on Friday at the church.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bob Stewart, Don Stewart, Charlie Stewart, Jon Paul Baia, Jonathan Edward Stewart, Jennifer Anne Baia, Autumn Lee Stewart and William Higdon.
