Obituary for James Jones

Mr. James Frederick Jones, 89, of Cartersville, passed away peacefully at Townsend Rehabilitation Center on Thursday, October 27, 2016, following a lengthy illness. Born July 16, 1927, he was the son of the late Edward Frederick Jones and Virgie Cowart Jones.

James was one of four siblings and never married. He was a member of Atco Baptist Church and retired from Lockheed Martin in 1977. James was a veteran of World War II and served in Japan. In past years he enjoyed pheasant hunting in Nebraska with his family and friends. He also loved farming, livestock, his show horses and his bird dogs. As a former Cartersville High School football player, he was an avid fan of the Atlanta Falcons, Georgia Bulldogs and the Atlanta Braves. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his younger sister, Vera Jones Worley (Jack).

He is survived by his sisters, Margie C. Jones and Annie Jones Crowe and husband, Earl all of Cartersville; along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 30, 2016 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with The Reverend Doug Harris and Pastor Mike Boatfield officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:30 p.m. Sunday prior to the service.

The family wants to extend a “special thanks” to Floyd Home Health Care and Townsend Park for their excellent care during his illness.
