Melvin E. "Pookie"  Roberson
Mr. Melvin E. “Pookie” Roberson, age 72, of Rome, passed away Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Redmond Regional Hospital following a lingering illness.

Mr. Roberson was born January 7, 1944 in Taylorsville, Georgia and was the son of the late Cecil Roberson and Sallie Waters Roberson.

He was a veteran, having served in the United States Army from 1967 – 1969 achieving the rank of Spec 4, with one year being served in Viet Nam. Melvin retired from Mohawk Industries in 2009 and enjoyed gardening and working on cars in his spare time. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Bobby and Kenny Roberson; a sister, Ruth Chappell; three grandsons, Tyler and Dalton Roberson and Austin Mathison; and a son-in-law, Joey Mathison, Sr.

Survivors include his wife, Sandra Vaughn Roberson; his daughters, Angela Mathison and Daphne Casolari (Joey); his son Michael Roberson (Liz); three brothers, W.C., George and Ricky Roberson; five sisters, Mary Cline, Sylvia Roberson, Sheila Reynolds, Donna Butler and Shirley Gentry; three grandsons, Joey and Randy Mathison and Brayden Casolari; three granddaughters, Bridgette Mathison, Michaela and Linsey Roberson; along with his great-grandchildren, Cadin, Braxton, Carlye and Zaedyn.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2017 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Deacon Van Chappell and The Reverend Doyle Waters officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Joey and Randy Mathison, Cory Reynolds, Michael Roberson and Allen Black.
