Obituary for Harold ""Little Boy"" Howell

Harold ""Little Boy"" Howell
On May 13, 2017, Harold “Little Boy” Howell, slipped quietly from this life into his heavenly home that God has prepared for him. He was born January 21, 1921 in Cartersville, the last of nine children born to Charles Martin Howell and Eva Knight Howell.

His wife Marion of 70 years has been waiting for him for 5 years. Also there to meet him are his grandchildren, Kayla Cole, Logan Kelly, Casey Still, Johnny Howell and John Wesley Bean; four brothers Hubert, Hoyt, Howard and Herman as well as four sisters, Gertrude Shinall, Amaretta Shinall, Emmer Jean Brooks and Myrtle Abernathy.

He was a devoted Christian man, a lifelong member of Center Baptist Church and an ordained minister. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and later retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation after 40 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed the lake and the woods with his family throughout his life. He taught his children and grandchildren to enjoy the simple things in life whether it was a rock with a face on it or which side of the tree a squirrel would climb to get the best shot. He often talked of his younger days and how the woods held secrets of his past life, with the simple height of a bank hiding a moon shine still on a logging road revealing a traditional way of life he lived as a young man. He was kind and soft-spoken and loved his family. All of his children and grandchildren have stories to tell and thousands of memories to hold on to. I hope you all will share some of them today.

Harold Howell went by a few names that meant so much to him and the people who loved and knew him. "Little Boy” was his first name until his second grade teacher named him “Harold. His wife always called him "Lit". And then he was called “Daddy” by his loving and devoted children his son's Jerry, Randy, Joe and Mike and his daughters Frankie Allen, Brenda Free, Jennifer Starnes and Joyce Carter. The next name he was honored with was “Paw Paw” and was blessed with 20 grandchildren, 35 great -grandchildren and 20 great- great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Center Baptist Church with The Reverend Dewayne McCreary officiating. Interment will follow in Old Macedonia Cemetery with military honors. Mr. Howell will be carried to the church on Wednesday to lie-in-state from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chad Cole, Danny Howell, Scott Howell, Jacob Allen, Chris Allen and Derik Starnes.
