United States Marine Sargent William “Bill” Dee Simmons, 72, died on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Floyd Medical Center.

Sgt. Simmons was born on February 15, 1946 in Anna, Illinois, the son of the late Harold Thomas Simmons and Helen Jane Nordmeyer Simmons.

Sargent Simmons served two tours in Vietnam during his active duty in the Marine Corp. He was an avid car enthusiast and spent time with his son, Sam, driving a race car around dirt tracks. He also loved his church missions. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Sam Simmons and a brother, Donald Simmons.
Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Norene Simmons of Taylorsville; his sisters, Nancy Beanland of Dongola, Illinois and Kay McClellan of Karnak, Illinois; his brothers, Darrell and Jerry Simmons, both of Taylorsville; his grandchildren, Skyler Simmons, Logan Simmons and Andrew Bailey; his sister and brother-in-law, Fran and Dan Talasek of Taylorsville; his niece, Caitlin Talasek of Taylorsville; and several additional nieces and nephews; along with 1 special son, Charles Swaney of Canton.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with The Reverend Brian Crisp officiating. Interment will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mission Fund at Lime Branch Baptist Church in Cedartown.
