Mr. Harold Hobert Posey, age 80, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his residence in Kingston on Wednesday, June 27, 2018.
Harold was born in Kingston on April 13, 1938 to the late Lyda Bradford Posey and Will Henry Posey.
Harold will be forever remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, brother, industrious professional, and known for his compassion and work ethic. As a student at Kingston Elementary School, he devoted time delivering the Atlanta Constitution before school in the morning and the Atlanta Journal in the afternoon. He continued his education at the Mount Berry School for Boys near Rome where he was inducted into the Varsity and Academic Clubs. Upon graduation in 1956, he joined the U.S. Army paratroopers serving honorably with the 11th Airborne Division as a Field Artilleryman in West Germany during the Cold War era. During this time, he was awarded the Army Parachutist Medal. Upon discharge from active military service with the rank of SGT, he returned to Georgia where he met and married the love of his life, Elizabeth. The newlyweds moved to Atlanta, GA where Harold worked and completed his Bachelor of Business Administration from Georgia State University.
Harold and Elizabeth later moved to Cobb County where they had two daughters, Lori and Amy, and he started a successful business as a State Farm Insurance Agent. Always seeking better opportunities and while raising a family and growing his business, he earned a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from John Marshall Law School. The value he placed on learning led him to campaign for a seat on the Cobb County School District’s Board of Education where he served with distinction for 18 consecutive years.
During this time, he became an active member of the Cobb County Jaycees striving to help make a difference in the community through leadership and education. After his retirement in 2003, he moved back to his childhood home in Kingston where he continued his interest in community service by being elected to serve on the Kingston City Council. This month marks the mid-way point in his second term in office. Harold’s wife and daughters gave him their full support and love throughout his life. For those who knew Harold, he will always be remembered as a loving husband and father and a caring and compassionate person.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Elizabeth, their daughters, Lori Kinsell and Amy Newman, five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, his brother, Larry Posey, his step-brother, Gene Giddens, his step-sister, Ann Lassiter, his uncle, Tommy Posey and other extended family and friends.
