Obituary for Glen Bo Vincent

Glen Bo Vincent

Glen L. “Bo” Vincent, 59, of Cartersville passed away Monday, August 2, 2010 at his residence after a lengthy battle with illness. Born July 4, 1951 in Memphis, Tennessee, he was the son of Wayne Tate Vincent and the late Dorothy Carlisle Vincent. In addition to his mother, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Joann Tilghman Vincent, and his daughter, Hope Howard.

Bo was a retired machinist from the United States Navy where he proudly served for 24 years. A Fourth of July baby, he often joked that he was 10 years old before he realized that the Fourth of July parades were not in his honor. Bo was honored to serve his country and was very patriotic.

Bo had a great sense of humor and enjoyed telling stories and jokes. He enjoyed woodworking and building furniture, spending time with his grandchildren, and fishing. One of Bo’s favorite memories which he often shared was the time he ate lunch with Elvis Presley sitting on the steps of Graceland. He was also a member of Atco Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Barbara Bailey Vincent; his children and their spouses, Kim and Jay Murphy of Cartersville, Anthony and Robin Vincent of Cartersville, and Ginger and John Harper of Meansville; his grandchildren, Jessica Howard, Elizabeth Howard, Josh Howard, Baylee McCollum, Jonah McCollum, Anzley Harper, and Kaiden Harper; his father and step-mother, Wayne and Marion Vincent of Millington, Tennessee; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Janie and Rusty Renfroe of Oviedo, Florida and Alma and Dennis Finger of Rosemark, Tennessee; his brother and sister-in-law, Gene and Melanie Vincent of Nashville, Tennessee; several aunts and uncles; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 5, 2010 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Marc Curlee and Rev. Charles Ivey officiating. Burial with full military honors provided by American Legion Carl Boyd Post #42 will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jay Murphy, David Howard, Rusty Renfroe, Jon Loman, Gene Vincent, and Randy Cochran. Bo’s grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers are requested to meet at the funeral home by 10:15 a.m. on Thursday.

The family will receive friends from 6 – 9 p.m. Wednesday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Bartow Relay for Life or to Atco Baptist Church.
