Thomas Ray Starnes, 71 of Cartersville, Georgia passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2017 peacefully in his home surrounded by his wife and children. He was born June 12, 1946 in Cartersville Georgia, and was the son of the late Lt. Colonel Albert Starnes and Faye Starnes.
He joined the Air Force in 1966 and was honorably discharged in 1970. He retired from Bellsouth after 30+ years of service in 2002. In his younger years he was an avid golfer and played many rounds at Green Valley Greens golf course of which he was once part owner. You could find him playing tennis with his Bellsouth co-workers on any given lunch period. In the summer his weekends were spent with his family on the lake, riding jet skis, boating and spending time on the boathouse. He also enjoyed restoring 1967 Camaro’s that he would drive through the North Ga Mountains with the top down and his wife as his copilot. In his later years he loved spending time with his family on the farm, tending to his garden, pond, ducks and playing with his beloved dog Chico. He enjoyed camping and taking trips in his motorhome and going out west with his family. He is preceded in death by his father, Lt. Colonel Albert Starnes, and two grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Jennifer H. Starnes whom he married April 10, 1976; Three sons, a daughter and daughter in law: Danny Howell, Chad Cole, Stephanie Cole and Derik and Elizabeth Starnes all of Cartersville Ga. Brothers and Sister in Laws, Lamar and Florence Starnes, Don and Pete Starnes and Sisters and Brother in Law Becky and Tim Shepherd and Connie Starnes; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 3rd at the Canton Road Church of God on 14 Simpson Cir NE, Cartersville, Ga. Visitation will start at 2:00 pm with the service starting at 3:00pm.
